Heidi's Journey at Pet Practice Bournemouth
Heidi was seen when she was just two months old as she was suffering from some unusual urinary habits. Toilet training was also proving more difficult than usual.
Heidi had an ultrasound where it showed her right kidney was irregular, deformed and the cause of her problems. It could not be repaired but fortunately her left kidney was fully functional. Kidneys have such a large functional reserve that the damaged kidney could be removed and Heidi would remain well with the one remaining kidney. Surgery would be delayed until she was a little older and there were less risks of complications.
When Heidi was six months old she under-went major surgery to have her problem kidney removed. This is called a nephrectomy and requires experienced surgeons. Her surgery was uneventful with her making a full recovery in due course. Heidi is now a fully grown golden retriever and still comes to see us at the practice.
